Fresh food and vegetables have been the trade mark of The Norton family for 80 years. Now the family have brought this tradition to a new level by applying it to the appetite for healthy foods among 21st century Dubliners.
The Norton Family
James Norton, the third generation of the family to manage their long standing fruit and veg business, teamed up with like-minded business partner Darragh Buckley in 2013 to apply their expertise with a variation on the fresh food concept and thus The Punnet Health Store was born.
Both are sports loving Dubliners. James played rugby for Leinster and Connaught, while Darragh worked in the sports and leisure business for a number of years. This gave them an insight into the requirements and tastes of active young people and a range of consumers who enjoy healthy lifestyles.
Darragh’s professional and marketing expertise also identified a niche sector of the market where those new tastes were not being met in affordable way.
“We were surprised by the prices of supposed “healthy” products in other specialist health food shops and wanted to create a platform where a healthy lifestyle wouldn’t cost the earth,” he explains.
Their first store in Glasthule, near Dalkey, provides fresh organic coffee, fruit juices, protein shakes, wheatgrass shots and smoothies. They also provide organic soups, dried fruit and nuts, protein supplements, natural skin care products, environmentally friendly cleaning products and diet sensitive food (wheat, dairy and gluten free pasta, flour and biscuits).
The men pride themselves on their customer service and this is reflected in how they responded to demand for juices. Within months of hearing what their customers wanted they launched their juice cleanse programme in November 2013. The programme provides customers with five bottled juices per day for three or five days as a food alternative. The program is designed to cleanse your digestive system with fresh vitamins, enzymes, antioxidants and minerals for a full body detox. To meet this demand they brought a third partner on board, Michael Finla?y. and they also decided to open a second shop to meet the needs of customers in the south city.
In June 2014 the 3 men opened the Punnet Food Emporium (P.F.E) on Lower Mount Street, Dublin 2. It provides customers with original healthy lunch options of salads, Superfood wraps and fresh homemade soup. They also boast a large juice and coffee bar, that offers wheat grass shots, matcha lattes, bullet proof coffees, juice detox programs and much more.
